Jay Todd - MS, CSCS*D, HFI, Nike SPARQ Certified


 

Jay Todd (MS, CSCS*D, HFI, Nike SPARQ Certified), owner and founder of JT Training, LLC is a sports medicine professional with over 20 years of experience in teaching, coaching, and training of students, athletes, and peers in exercise science, wellness, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and overall athletic enhancement! Through his advanced education, professional experience, certifications, and extensive background Jay is committed to providing opportunities towards successful goal attainment for all who train with him! He is a powerful motivator, a strong leader, and a passionate trainer who thoroughly enjoys helping others succeed in their fitness and athletic goals!

Education

Jay received his Bachelor’s degree by graduating with honors from Wayne State College where he double majored in Exercise Science/Wellness and Athletic Training and minored in Coaching. Additionally, he went on and obtained his Master’s degree in Exercise Science at Wayne State College during which time he received a full time graduate assistantship. Jay accepted a full time teaching position in the Department of Health and Human Performance in 1999 at Wayne State College.  During his tenure at Wayne State College he taught curriculum in Exercise Science, Wellness, Athletic Training, and developed and implemented a new bachelor’s degree titled Applied Human and Sport Physiology. This degree is designed for students interested in pursuing graduate study/careers in athletic training, exercise physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, cardiac rehabilitation, physical therapy and various allied health professions. Numerous training components were developed, implemented, taught, and added to the curriculum by Jay including all courses within the new Applied Human and Sport Physiology (Sports Medicine) degree program as well as Principles of Strength and Conditioning, Training for Agility and Sports Performance, and Musculoskeletal Evaluation and Management.

Professional Affiliations

Coinciding with his teaching load at Wayne State College, Jay also served as the Human Performance Laboratory Coordinator for several years for the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Sport. Numerous research projects were conducted every semester in the laboratory regarding all aspects of human performance, fitness, and wellness. The results of these projects were presented at regional and national conferences such as the Northland Regional American College of Sports Medicine (NACSM), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and many were submitted for and accepted into publication to various peer reviewed journals. In addition to being a member and presenting regularly at these organization’s meetings Jay also served as a NSCA CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) sponsor and director to allow the Exercises Science program at Wayne State College to be part of the NSCA’s elite national Educational Recognition Program. Furthermore, he utilized the Exams on Request program through the NSCA Certification Commission and has served as the site coordinator to allow Wayne State College to successfully host the two certification examinations (CSCS and NSCA-CPT) of the NSCA from 2000-2006.

   

Jay completed a three year elected position as President of the Northland Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (NACSM). He has served on numerous planning committees and was the Nebraska State Representative to the organization from 2003-2005. The Spring 2008 meeting titled Bridging the Gap Between Science and Application for Human Performance Training was designed and planned under Jay as he served as the chair of the planning committee.  The meeting featured Boyd Epley, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) founder, former head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Nebraska and currently Director of Coaching Performance for the NSCA and Dr. Gregory Haff, a strength and conditioning expert and faculty member in the Department of Human Performance and Applied Sciences at West Virginia University School of Medicine.

Certifications

Jay has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) since 1999. He also possesses and maintains a Health Fitness Instructor (HFI) certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) since 2000. Additionally he is skilled in Basic Life Support by maintaining his First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications. Jay was recently recognized as an Ironman (2005 - 2011) through the NSCA, received the Bronze Award (2003 and 2010) for dedicated service through the NSCA Certification Commission, and became recertified with distinction (CSCS*D) in 2003 as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

          

Jay is also one of a select few individuals in the country that are Nike SPARQ Certified.  This allows Jay to test athletes and provide them with their official SPARQ rating.  He is the only person with this capability within the midwest states of IA, NE, SD, and ND.

      

Experience

Being a former four sport high school athlete and collegiate football player Jay understands the commitment, dedication, and teamwork required of successful training programs. In recognition of his dedication towards success, in 2002 he was inducted into the Wayne State College athletic hall of fame as a vital member of the 1993 football team which set numerous school records.  In college Jay not only played sports but also served as student trainer acquiring over 4000 hours under a certified athletic trainer. Furthermore he served as an athletic enhancement specialist for the Sports Medicine Center of Omaha, NE and as a Fitness Testing Consultant for Providence Wellness Center of Wayne, NE. Upon receiving his Bachelor’s degree Jay worked with athletes of all levels from middle school to professionals including producing members of the NFL, MLB, NBA, and Olympic Track and Field while holding various training positions including Coach, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, College Professor, Fitness Instructor, and Personal Trainer in Arizona, Iowa, and Nebraska. He also has ample experience with diseased populations including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, etc... and can make your life more enjoyable by increasing your fitness level, energy, and outlook on life!

Jay’s work experience and educational background provide him with a wide range of qualifications that make him a leader in the personal training and athletic enhancement fields. Through his education, employment, and athletic career, he has become well versed in the many aspects of athletic enhancement, particularly in the areas of strength and conditioning, power, speed, and agility.
